Loveland Canoe & Kayak is once again holding its annual cleanup. It is amazing what comes out of the river each year. It runs from 9-4 and the first 40 participants get a free canoe. She has seen a need in children’s lives and she is part of a too small group in the world, she is doing something to meet the need she sees. “My goal is to see that each child receives a cozy, comfy, fun pillowcase to have of their own during their hospital stay at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center”, says Katie. Residents of Loveland may notice a more picturesque environment throughout the Loveland area this week. The Loveland segment of the Cincinnati-wide Great American Cleanup sponsored by Keep Cincinnati Beautiful was a great success in spite of muddy conditions and threatening rain.

The Loveland Initiative
The Loveland Initiative’s teen group, Dream Makers is searching for 8th-12th graders who are either looking for volunteer hours or are just looking to get involved in their community. Dream Maker’s goal is to service our community and at the same time having fun doing it. The Loveland Initiative helps our neighbors in need. They have been doing it since 1996 and are currently focusing on their Christmas Store helping children to buy gifts for their parents. To allow them to continue to focus on the important tasks ahead of them, they have started a campaign to fund their 2012 operating expenses. Just a few latte’s a week until February would help to fund their entire year. In this time of increased need, they are hoping to be able to help more families as the recession …

Tuesday night, the team that leads the Loveland Amazing Race each June, led a different type of event. They came together to celebrate the other, more satisfying reason they put on the great race each year. Martin Schickel and Doug Portman emceed a short ceremony, calling up each of the leaders from groups that benefit from the race proceeds. The Amazing Race is a huge event, using over 450 volunteers to put the race on each year. To date the race has given out over $300K for area charities!
