Well, it took forever for us to be able to pull this story together, but we wanted to tell the vendors and management of the Loveland Farmers Market how much fun it was! I hear there might be one this fall, so keep your ears open. We attended a good portion of the event last week and we had so much fun. We participated in the Watermelon seed spitting, but alas there were more talented lips than ours.

We made it out to the Loveland Farmers Market this week again and caught some photos of the crops that are finally coming in larger quantities. Delicious looking tomatoes, corn and lots of other seasonal vegetables to choose from. It’s exciting to see a Farmers Market here in Loveland. We have a great Krogers here in town, but having the opportunity to pick up fresh, pesticide free locally grown vegetables is a level above what they can offer on a regular basis. The ribs we loved from Liberty City BBQ are no longer available on the trail. A local personal chef has turned the tide on unhealthy, albeit delicious, food and has come ready to impress!
This new cafe in Loveland caters particularly to the healthy folks. Her target market are the bikers, hikers, strollers and roller skaters who take advantage of the Little Miami trail that goes through Loveland. In an effort to encourage families to plant vegetables, flowers and other creative and fun landscape features in their backyards, Granny’s Garden School has established the Family Garden Project. For a donation of $25, enrollees will receive a garden starter kit, which includes a selection of more than 20 varieties of vegetable/flower seeds, discounts on compost, a bucket and coupons for free flower, vegetable and herb plants from area growers and nurseries. Participants can email Granny with gardening questions and will be invited to twice monthly in-the-garden learning activities.

Plans are currently underway for an open-air market at a location in Historic Loveland. Kicking off in June, the Market will be open once a week through October.
The Loveland Farmers Market will enrich and strengthen our community by providing a venue where locally grown and produced items are regularly available. Patrons can meet the farmers that grow the food placed on their tables and learn sustainable and alternative ways of living and consuming locally.
