Loveland 2010 Memorial Day Program

The Loveland Veterans’ Memorial Committee is pleased to announce the 2010 Memorial Day Program will be held on Monday, May 31. The Loveland Memorial Program will start with a parade beginning at 9:00 a.m. at the Loveland Elementary School, 600 Loveland Madeira Road, Loveland, Ohio. A ceremony will be held at the Veterans’ Loveland Memorial, located on West Loveland Avenue at the corner of Riverside Drive, immediately following the parade.

The ceremony will include special guest speaker John S. McCahan. John is a former U.S. Army Captain who moved to Loveland in 2008. He works at Recruit Military, a local company specializing in helping Military Veterans. John grew up in western Pennsylvania in the small town of Bedford. He enlisted in the Army Reserve after high school while attending Pennsylvania State University. While at Penn State, he competed for and received an Army ROTC scholarship and was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army as an Infantry Officer while graduating with a B.A. in History.

John served for almost 8 years on active duty in various leadership positions in the 10th Mountain Division, 2nd Infantry Divisions and the 82nd Airborne. He was trained as a Parachutist and Ranger, and was transfer into logistics as an Ordnance Officer. John completed service at the rank of Captain having served at various bases: Ft. Drum, NY, Somalia, the Republic of Korea, and Ft. Bragg, NC. Since leaving the service John has worked in several logistics and operations positions.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, services will be conducted at the Maineville Cemetery at approximately 11:15 a.m., Union Cemetery at approximately 12:00 p.m., and Kerr Cemetery at approximately 12:30 p.m.

The American Legion Post 256, located at 897 Oakland Road, will host a Memorial Day Picnic at 2:00 p.m. This event is open to the public and all Veterans and their families are invited to attend.
