Loveland, as the Sweetheart of Ohio, has a tradition each year of selecting a wonderful lady who represents our town, not for a year, but for the rest of her life. We have had a chance to get to know some of these women over the years and we are thrilled to call them our friends. The ladies are a goodwill gift to our city. Most have volunteered throughout their lives to try to make Loveland a hospitable and enjoyable place to live and work. They spend time at the …
Our little town of Loveland Ohio celebrated the end of 2011 and the start of 2012 this past weekend. Like other cities and towns, we celebrate in groups large and small. While many simply open a bottle of bubbly and watch the ball drop on television with family, others still get out on the town to celebrate with old friends and to make new ones. In Loveland, we celebrate many different ways! From traditional formal parties, to fine dining, to spending the night with friends with similar interests, to partying …
Saturday turned out to be a wonderful day for a festival! Loveland celebrated the 2011 Christmas in Loveland as the residents and businesses turned out in full force. There were lots of smiling faces on children and adults alike. Even though it got a little chilly after the sun went down, the bonfire raged to provide a spot to warm up. In fact, there were firepits at the Cafe, Julians and Paxton’s to keep the crowds from getting too cold to enjoy the night. Here are some of the experiences …
We’ve waited all year! The most exciting community celebration is back! Tonight, we are celebrating Christmas in Loveland in our own special way! This evening the community has the opportunity to come together to make a statement that we are not all that different from each other. We have great things left for this country and especially for this city. We gather around the bonfire downtown and we sing carols to celebrate the birth of our Lord, but it should also be about the opportunity to reach out to those …
Once again, Martin, Doug and Kathy showed they can put on a party event! The over 400 participants in the race this year showed their gritty dedication as they ventured out on what turned out to be a perfect night for scavenging. The teams of four were sent out all over downtown Loveland with a list of questions to answer and objects and images to find and identify. It was really fun to watch them in action, particularly as they tried to bob for apples in the fountain without ending …
Vertical Drop Ski & Snowboard had a great event for kids Saturday, bringing in mounds of ice and an incline & rail system to allow them to learn and show off their skills. Ski’s and snowboards were the tool of the trade as kids went down the ramp, jibbin’ the rail and performing tricks and even a few aerial feats.
Several of the kids were overheard saying this was the most fun they’ve had for a while. They all seemed to be having a great time. The event was the brainchild …
Each year in Loveland, we honor a lady who exemplifies the Sweetheart of Ohio and the charm of our little town. The nominations come from you, the public. Please think about the people in your life that would be a good representative for our city and send in the nomination to Jodi. We also honor an artist each year, choosing a Valentines Day design and printing up cards to be sold. The winners from last year are highlighted inside.
Tuesday night, the team that leads the Loveland Amazing Race each June, led a different type of event. They came together to celebrate the other, more satisfying reason they put on the great race each year. Martin Schickel and Doug Portman emceed a short ceremony, calling up each of the leaders from groups that benefit from the race proceeds. The Amazing Race is a huge event, using over 450 volunteers to put the race on each year. To date the race has given out over $300K for area charities!
The weather threatened to dampen the spirits of the 15th Annual Loveland Art Show participants and visitors, but Art won out! It turned out to be a very pleasant afternoon indeed. It looked like a very nice crowd that meandered through the dozens of tents, full of intriguing and tempting works of art.
All day long, we had a steady stream of people coming into Nisbet Park to view, and in some cases buy, the art of the artists of Loveland and the surrounding area. I personally saw jewelry, photography, …
We are excited to welcome a new engineering firm to downtown Loveland. Choice One Engineering has opened their office on West Loveland Avenue across from Julian’s Deli. Doing their part to reverse the trend of businesses pulling back in this recession, Vice President Matt Hoying decided expansion was the right thing for Choice One.
